Chapter Thirteen
Regan stood in the train station looking at people walking by, one hand gripping the travel bag slung over his shoulder. Excitement bubbled through him for the upcoming journey, knowing he was going to be spending time with his best friend as well as the girl he had become enamored with.
He saw Shane before Shane saw him, and the first thing that he noticed was his friend didnât look happy. Shane had always been the daredevil between the two with a glint of mischief shining in his grey eyes. Now he looked like someone had drowned his favorite puppy while getting kicked in the balls. When Shane looked around Regan waved a hand and his friend hurried over to him.
He gave Shane a quick hug.
âWhatâs wrong with you?â Regan asked.
âThereâs this woman I canât stop thinking about.â
Reganâs eyes widened. Heâd known Shane since they were ten years old, had spent every summer with him including the ones on college break, and damned if heâd ever heard those particular words uttered by Lord Shane Gordon.
âExcuse me?â he asked, just to double check heâd heard right.
âAh, hell,â Shane muttered. âMy voyeur girl. Sheâs seeing someone else.â
âOh.â Regan was very confused. âHow do you know?â
âWe went on a date and it was pretty fucking amazing right up until she told me about the man she was going away with.â
Regan was still confused. âIâm sorry, I donât understand. Why are you upset that sheâs got another man? Usually this would make you very happy since it meant you didnât have to deal with a clingy woman after.â
âBecause I liked her,â Shane said.
âYou like all your women.â
âNo, Regan,â Shane said, frustration leaking into his voice. âI mean I really liked her.â
Regan honestly didnât know what to say to that. Heâd never seen a lovesick Shane, hadnât known what a lovesick Shane would actually look like, and now that he did it boggled his mind.
Shane threw up a hand. âSorry. Sorry for being a killjoy. I promise not to be a downer our whole trip. You and me, weâre going to tear up the French countryside.â
âAbout that,â Regan said, running a hand over his neck. âI forgot to tell you I invited someone.â
âCome again?â
âI met this girl and, man, sheâs gorgeous. And funny. And ⦠I invited her to join me on this trip.â
Shane let out a long suffering sigh. âFuck me. Really? You get to have a girl on this trip and I get to toss off with my hand? Not exactly fair.â
âI suppose the timing sucks, huh?â
âYep.â
âHere she comes,â Regan said, looking over Shaneâs head. He raised his hand to wave at her.
âGreat. Just fucking great.â
âI didnât realize when I invited Molly that you were going through something, but please try to be nice to her,â Regan said.
Shane blinked at him. âWait. Whatâs her name?â
âMolly. Youâre going to like her.â
âBloody hell!â Shane swore. âI canât believe this. Youâre the other man!â
Regan felt like heâd missed something important. âWhat?â
And then Shane spun and Regan saw Molly come to a stop as she saw them both standing together.
